I still need some help understanding how to use Spyder2Pro. As I

need to keep opening and checking the colorimeter with each adjustment?

The colorimeter window is not part of the Assistant process. If you have the necessary hardware controls, mark them in the software, choose a defined luminance target, and calibrate, then during the process a horizontal bar will appear, with your target value in the center. You then adjust your luminance until the bar is as close as possible to the center (depending on the units of your controls, exactly centered may not be possible). It sounds like you are not getting this step in your process, which would tend to indicate you aren't going through the right steps previously, or that there is some quirk in the process on your system.
