What settings did you use to profile the printer? I'm finding that
ICM OFF yields a grayscale with some bad color crossovers. Color
controls gamma 2.2 and Epson Standard seems to be more even if a bit
bluish. I'm also finding that I get density reversals with ICM off.
So even though this isn't standard practice I'm going to try to make
profiles using Image Specialist ink in a R1800 on Premium Semigloss
using Premium Luster paper type (better dmax), Color controls-2.2-
epson standard, and best photo (better dmax and no density reversals).
Sometimes this can improve problematic print reversals or other such issues, but at the cost of some color gamut reduction. Worth it, if the printer is unprofilable at the raw setting...
The ideal solution is to choose well mannered printers, and use inks and media that work well with them... but there's always someone looking to make a problem combination work.
