Are you running on a Mac, with OSX Leopard?

If so: you have to make sure that color management is properly turned
off in the 3800 driver when you print your targets from S3P, before
measuring.

In the Leopard driver: you HAVE TO choose "Epson Color Controls",
rather than ColorSync, in the Color Matching pane. Failure to do this
means that your target print will be color managed (a ColorSync profile
will be applied).
