PFP3.5 reds just not right ...

PFP3.5 reds just not right ...

2008-11-15 by madason32

Hi there,

Im trying to profile some Hahnemühle paper (William Turner and
Bamboo,) but am unable to get the reds to match. They tend towards
orange when they should lean to a colder bluish...

The generic Hahnemühle profiles match the reds perfectly, both in
softproof as well as in print.

I've tried all rendering intents to no avail.

I'm using an Epson 3800 with original inkset.

Please help :-)

Are you running on a Mac, with OSX Leopard?

If so: you have to make sure that color management is properly turned
off in the 3800 driver when you print your targets from S3P, before
measuring.

In the Leopard driver: you HAVE TO choose "Epson Color Controls",
rather than ColorSync, in the Color Matching pane. Failure to do this
means that your target print will be color managed (a ColorSync profile
will be applied).

Alas, I'm running Vista x64.

I have turned off color management in the Epson Driver, and print the
targets from PFP itself.

I have also tried printing with different media settings, but they are
remarkably similar to one another - so I stuck with the Velvet Fine
Art for both paper types.

In your opinion, would it be beneficial to experiment with laying down
less ink on the paper ? Or will this merely be a waste of paper (as a
paperfreak, I feel a tug in my heart when I print nothing but squares
on this lovely media :-)

Oh, and I also tried altering the profile to make the reds more blue,
but that skewed the BW with a colorcast.

While going over my workflow for the hundreth time, and reading the
manual for the tenth time, I have noticed that the media check section
in the manual shows swatches that are _significantly_ brighter than
those I have printed.

My primaries are very dark - this would indicate that too much ink is
being put down right ?

Perhaps the problem lies there...
