Is Spyder 3 Pro a good choice for me ?

2009-09-01 by vchavarha

I ordered Spyder 3 Pro to complement my HP LP2475W monitor. The goal to edit photographs only once so that whatever is printed looks more or less like what is seen on the monitor. The far most important issue is the details in the shadows and highlights and the overall brightness. Colors come second.
Now my Spyder 3 on its way and I am learning that it is actually impossible to correct the monitor brightness using Spyder3Pro.
Is that is so the colorimeters goes straight back to the reseller as I see no point in having a colorimeter that cannot conduct brightness adjustments no matter how convenient and fast it is. If there is still a reliable way to do it I am keeping it. Any advices in this regard ? I do not want to unpack the software before seeing what it does as it will invalidate the return option for the whole package.
Does DataColor have some kind of trial software that I could download and see what it does first ?
