If it ain't broke... Upgrades!

2009-09-09 by Rebel PPC

Well, I took the plunge after a horrifying experience updating Photoshop and
updated my Spyder3Elite v3.07 to v3.1.2 (or v3.2.1 depending on where you
see it on Datacolor's site). After updating and rebooting, I set the
monitor back to its defaults and ran a "Full Calibration". It went along
just like version 3.0.7 did, looking at colors on the screen and asking me
to adjust my Brightness control until I get it to match what Spyder3Elite
suggests as the right level. However, it never did have me adjust the
contrast like v3.0.7 did. I ran a "Full Calibration" again just in case I
missed it and again, it never did ask me to adjust the contrast level to the
suggested level like v3.0.7 did.

Since the upgrade did not come with any instructions on what to expect or
what would be different and I was running blind during this upgrade, I
uninstalled the whole thing and reinstalled v3.0.7 and did a "Full
Calibration". To my horror, at the point where v3.0.7 had always asked me
to adjust the contrast, it didn't do so this time. Undoubtedly, upgrading
to v3.1.2 has messed with something which will not let me revert to v3.0.7
and have things run the way they use to with that version.

Or, is v3.1.2 made to NOT have the user adjust the contrast like v3.0.7 did
and thus set a flag on the computer to not have this done again even if
reverting back to v3.0.7?

Upgrades!

Regards,
Thomas
