>>A couple of questions came up on a thread at dpreview.com : Can the Spyder3Elite 4 turn down luminance on monitors that are "too hot" (such as many 20/24" Glossy iMacs). And can the Spyder3Elite 4 software handle wide-gamut displays? Yes, one of the new features in the v4 software is the ability to dim displays in software; for Mac displays the software will automatically set the display to the desired luminance, and if that targeted luminance value is lower than hardware adjustments will cover, it will dim the display further in the video LUTs to make up the difference. For non-Mac displays, it all works the same except it has you adjust the brightness control, instead of the software doing it for you. Our testing and independent reviews of the new software on wide gamut displays both show very good results. David Brooks of Shutterbug (a tough critic by any standards) just reviewed it and gave it top scores, including on wide gamut. There is a link to his review on our website, if you are interested. NorthLight-Images has also been testing with good results, and should have a review up soon. C. D. Tobie Global Product Technology Mngr. Digital Imaging & Home Theater Datacolor.com CDTobie@...
