That may do a better job of getting the platform respectable than many other things. The corporations who write software do however have a legitimate concern about the GPL licensing scheme poisoning their code base. These people make a living from their intellectual property. If they have to worry about releasing the source for their private work ... it's a totaly understandable problem from my point of view. You actually CAN use fully profiled displays and printers in Linux at the moment on a handful of programs ... its just somewhat difficult and unfortunately not user friendly at all.
