Re: [colorvision_group] To C.David Tobie - Produc t Technology Manager

2006-04-26 by Jan Barkan

I currently have spyder2Pro which I purchased about 2 months ago. I see now that there is an "update" for spyder2Pro which allows for ambient light. I assumed that that would be downloadable. Correct?

Hi David,
I was under the impression that software upgrades were available on colorvision's website and in order to download them, you just needed to enter your current serial number. Am I correct?

However: there is one qualification about this.

Software updates that you download from the ColorVision web site are -updates-
for your specifically purchased levels-of-functionality in whatever you're
using. You can't download a free update from the ColorVision web site that
will let you build display profiles using the full set of calibration
parameters (such as native gamma, or adjustable white point) if the software
that you're updating only allows calibration at single white point.

Updates are what they say they are: "updates". They don't bring you from one
level of a product family up to a higher level. They bring your locally
installed copy of (whatever your Colorvision software is) up to the same level
as a newer version (of the same software) that will be shipping with newly
purchased products in the same configuration.
