How to match prints to what I see on the monitor?

How to match prints to what I see on the monitor?

Thank-you Tom for the assurance that the split patch colors are just
an indication only and for sharing that you also have different
colors in the same split patch.

And what's this thing about 'show edits in preview' box. Was it meant
to block the changes to the profile to be shown in the soft proofing?
I ran a couple of profiles and noticed that the changes to the
sliders do affect the soft proof.

I'm really dumbfounded now......So my profiled print does not match
the soft proof version. What are the steps i need to do to bring the
print to match the soft proof PS?

I thought I could use the Profile Adjustment Sliders to match the
print to the soft proof in PS. But if the soft proof is also changed
accordingly to the sliders than i'm never going to be able to match
my prints because the soft proof is also changing.

Here is an example: say my print is too blue and I need to add yellow
to the print profile to match the soft proof in the monitor. So in
printfix pro i add the yellow, build the new profile and print the
print with the new yellow-added profile. But now the soft proof with
the new yellow-added profile shows the soft proof to be extra yellow.
So how can my prints then 'catch-up' or match with the soft proof
then.

Am i then to use a separate profile for the soft proof and another
profile for printing? That seems the case based on the above....

At least if the soft proof stays unchanged and my profile adjustments
only change the print then i can understand how the profile
adjustments can bring the print to match the soft proofing.

But in this case the soft proof is also changed - so i really don't
know where to go from here.

Ed.

(I sent a very long, detailed response to this a couple of hours ago,
but it hasn't shown up yet, for some reason...! I'll repost it if it doesn't
appear in the next hour or so).
