Re: PrintFix Pro "no adjustments"

PFP is a wonderful profiling application - by far the easiest and the best I've used, and I've used several other applications (though never the several thousand dollar GMB ones). I've made about a dozen profiles with PFP. Four of them truly needed no adjustment at all, but the rest all needed a tweak or two. I mean just that - a tweak or two, usually involving very slight changes in the amount of yellow and/or red. No major adjustments at all. By the way, my printer is an Epson R1800, which has *small* known problems with yellows at default settings and with Epson default profiles. ( Of course the default Epson settings and the default Epson profiles aren't used when profiling with PFP, but I wonder if the printer just has problems with yellows until you tweak things). I don't know if my choice of printers makes a difference in the need for "tweaks". It's very important, I think, to allow your proofing prints to dry down for a while before passing judgement on them. Even when I make a profile for Epson Semi-gloss or for Epson Premium Luster, I find it much better to allow the print to dry down (or outgas, or whatever it does) for a few hours before judging the color accuracy. Many people have written that it's not necessary to allow prints to dry down with the two papers I've mentioned. I'm sure they're right, in their hands. In my own hands, if I get hasty about passing judgment on a print, I mislead myself and wind up making unnecessary work. Here's another difference - I'm only interested in getting prints which look "the same" (as close as humanly possible) as the image's appearance on my monitor. Perhaps I don't understand soft-proofing, but I haven't found it to save me any time or any paper. Again, YMMV. Bill Hansen
