Spyder2PRO using Ambient but LCD has no Contrast control

Spyder2PRO using Ambient but LCD has no Contrast control

2006-08-09 by clickcardio

I have a LCD with only Brightness and RGB controls but no Contrast
control for White Luminence (right?). I used the Ambient light
feature of PRO and it said I was a 2 medium dark. It went to set
blackness and brightness control adjusted dead center to target. The
white luminence (terms?) was twice as large as the target and having
no contrast control my only option appeared to to just hit continue.

At the end the before/after showed improvement, but it made a strong
suggestion for a big bump in the ambient light being brighter. I'm a
rank newbie, but thought doing color work in a darker setting was
better? Also, how does one hope to calibrate with no Contrast
control? Does turning off the ambient light feature make it better or
just ignores it?

I'm learning a lot in this group. The Colorvision Startup.exe program
was never working for me in conjunction with their Profile Chooser
program. I found Microsoft's WinColor.exe /L program call and
everything starts fine. Now if I can just get an even better profile.

Not exactly, you need to specify your "brightness" control on your LCD as being a "backlight" control (since thats what it really is), and then use it to control your white luminance as necessary...

We will make this more clearcut in future builds, but what you need to do is set your backlight down to the desired white luminance value.

You can use the Colorimeter tool in Spyder2PRO to set your backlight control to the target luminance if you prefer to do it that way, then leave it untouched during the rest of the process.
