New to the Group, and new Spyder2Pro user

New to the Group, and new Spyder2Pro user

2006-08-09 by Edward Henry

I just purchased the ColorVision Spyder2PRO and must say I am VERY
impressed. I have a new Dell 2405 wide screen monitor and a old Store
display Sony Trinitron 20" CRT that was pushing green very badly
(everything had a green tint even after using Digital Video Essentials
in the computers DVD drive). After using the Spyder2Pro I was able to
get both monitors to almost match perfectly (6500k) except for the CRT
being slightly darker. What I would like to know is is there a way for
me to use it to calibrate my TV as well? (It is an cheap TV with only
a composite A/V hook up) I saw the Color Vision Spyder TV but if I can
use the Spyder2 and not have to buy another color meter then that
would be wonderful. I have been using Digital Video Essentials, and
Avia till now.

Any suggestions will be welcomed. If it turns out I will have to buy
the Spyder TV suite I will just stay with my DVD calibration disks for
now.

Its not suprising that your old CRT is darker than a new LCD; glad to hear that you managed to match them other than that...

Monitor calibration works largely through videocard corrections and ICC profiles that are not available with most TV usages. SpyderTV uses the Spyder to calibrate the available hardware controls on the TV (Brightness, Contrast, Color, and Tint) while SpyderTV PRO does that, plus advanced cuts and gains. So you can't really use Spyder2PRO on a TV, unless you are running your TV through a Mac (Windows bypasses the videocard corrections for streaming video, Mac does not). If you can't justify SpyderTV, then stick with the visual adjustment tools for now.
