When will Version 2 beta be availible?

When will Version 2 beta be availible?

2006-10-24 by Randy Laskody

I had the head changed in the old 4000 and need to reprofile
everything and would really like the beta. Printing is piling up. Any
news on release?

You mean: the Beta; not the Release... Or the release of the Beta,
actually. (But not the release of the Release.) Just to make sure we're
all clear on this...:-)

It's moving along nicely.

One thing everyone will like is this: say goodbye to the progress bar,
and delay of several seconds, that used to happen every time the Print
Preview was calculated (or recalculated) after building a profile. This
would also happen every time you changed the output rendering intent, or
switched from a corner view to Full Sheet or back again.

Now: it's instant; and so, there is no longer a progress bar for the Print
Preview part. There's still a short progress bar during profile calculation,
but this effectively makes things feel twice as fast as they used to.

(Note: this doesn't make your measurements any faster, of course, and it
only affects profile building after you have a completed measurement set).

The Beta. When can we get the beta?

I don't see you on the beta testing list, so the official answer is: November. But if you send me your contact info and shipping address OFF LIST, I will sign you up for the beta program, in which case the answer will be: within a couple of days.

No, v2 is focused on black and white functions. Out of gamut color issues will have to wait for another update.

Could you recommend a 3rd party profile editor that will allow me to tweak the profile to deal with the blues better? I see Fuji makes one. I hate to pay $600 for a editor, but I print a lot and it would save me lots of time to not have to tweak the image.

Version 2 of PrintFIX PRO includes a curves import function that allows to to make any adjustments that can be done via a Photoshop RGB curve, and apply that curve to the profile, which can be used for profile editing. I doubt that this is what you are looking for, as I think you are looking for a fix for Lab conversion of out of gamut blues which makes them visually similar in hue, instead of numerically similar. Until we add a replace color function or a DoctorPRO type of profile editing function to PrintFIX PRO, you would need to use Doctor PRO for such a fix. I'll contact you off list about that.

You can load your test target into photoshop and do a selective color layer. Select the blue channel and ADD magenta. Print the target and read as usual. This forces your profiling application to compensate for the increased magents in the blues. Not very precise and requies a lot of experimenting, but can help.

This would only work if you use the TIFF targets, not the internal ones, and if all you are going to do is add red to the blue, you could probably do that via an RGB curves set, and apply that to the profile instead, with v2. I think a somewhat more selective adjustment is required.

Sorry I should have specified that

Agreed. Which brings us full circle to a profile editing application. If I recall correctly this was an old Colorvision workaround. I've used it with limited success in the past, but, haven't needed it for some time.
