I just got a new video card (ATI). The card will actually allow me to set the gamma, brightness and contrast. Should I use that or use my monitors controls?

Any adjustments that you make to the video card LUTs will be overwritten by your monitor profile. These tools, at least as I've seen them in the past, are really to allow noncalibrated users like gamers get what they want for specific uses; such as making games in the dark easier to see.

So if I understand this correctly making "Brightness", "Contrast" and "Gamma" adjustments in my NVIDIA GeForce4 4200 Go Color Correction tab is of no use and I should not tell Spyder2Pro software that my laptop has these controls when I calibrate? Your monitor does not have these controls, and its open to question whether your videocard does either, once the new VLUT correction data has been flashed to it. Chances are any adjustments you make here are eating up your available 256 levels per channel, so even if they "stick" when the VLUTs are flashed, they are not necessarily better than letting Spyder2PRO do these corrections for you; after all S2P does it via measurement, not blind guess, so would have to correct anything your videocard did even if it "sticks".
