Redone Profiles for EEM/HW Matte papers

Redone Profiles for EEM/HW Matte papers

2006-11-14 by Johnny Eades

I recently redid my profiles for EEM/HW MATTE papers and got results
which were way out of gamut when viewed in proof mode in PhotoShop
CS2. When I use the Ilford smooth glossy profile, it shows very little
out of gamut areas. Now the oddity here is when I also use the Ilford
Smooth Glossy profile to print through the results are much better
than using the recently made profile for the EEM/HW Matte paper. The
shadow detail is better separated by a great amount. This is an
anomaly I can live with, but wondered if there is a valid reason this
should occur.

Yes, gloss papers have a much larger gamut than matte media. As for using profiles for one media to print on another, thats a crap shoot in terms of what you like and what you don't.
