Extra large size color patches option.

Extra large size color patches option.

2006-11-30 by ed_limmy

Hi David and Dave,
Any possibility of getting really really LARGE patch sizes for easier,
more accurate and less error prone patch readings?

I understand that you can minimize the margins to enlarge the patches
but many times i would still want larger patches than what i can get
from minimizing the print margins. I noticed there are still a lot of
white spaces around the patches.

I also understand that I could have used the patch image in photoshop
to then resize the patches to whatever size i need it to be except
that when i do that outside of PFP, it could introduce mistakes or
errors in the subsequent settings of the profiles and rendering etc.
etc. within Photoshop - so i would rather keep things as simple and
straightforward (consistent) as possible and continue to use PFP to
print the patches.

THank-you.

Regards,
ed.

Sure: print on larger size sheets, if your printer is larger than letter/A4.

If you print on 13x19 inch paper and print the 729 patch target on 3 pages the patches are huge.

You're probably right about the patch size in A3 paper but I printed
out the 255 patch on A4 as I've only got A4 size printers and it was
quite small. It was made worse by me not remembering to minimize the
margins. So i had to be really careful on each read to place the PFP
sensor right ontop of the patch. I would love to have really jumbo
size patches for A4 size prints so that i can spend less time and
effort on making sure each read is 100% within the patch of that
color, and not worry about getting other colors from the border or
adjacent patch contaminate the reading. Maybe like one of those
effect you get when you enable the vision-impaired mode in Windows
where everything gets enlarged.

I've always maintained there were still too many white spaces
available around the outside of the patches.

Thank-you.

Regards,
Ed.

Hi,

I admit that I agree that. With no margin, my PF is just fitting on
the patches, no color margins left.
I imagine this is a choice, from dev. to let such spaces. Why ? It is
printers related ?

Btw, I'm now sure I've made mistakes, sometines, because of that...

The next version will include a "quartered" 225 patch target in the Targets folder that is intended for 4x6 and 5x7 printers, but you could print it on four letter or A4 sheets, and assemble them after printing, to read "jumbo" patches, at the cost of more paper and ink. But this has to be printed from Photoshop, not PrintFIX PRO...

If we could find a way to reduce margins that didn't clip stuff with some paper formats, some printer drivers, etc... we'd be happy to do so.
