Confusing error message

Confusing error message

2007-06-25 by Stilson Snow

Using Spyder2 Express, I just profiled my new monitor, but when I
start my computer I now get this message:

>>Sorry, no calibration data was found in the profile "sRGB Color
Space Profile" for monitor "Viewsonic Q2wb". Please select a
different profile suing 'ProfileChooser.' (1168)<<

I did have to manually install the driver for this monitor, but it
appears in screen properties. (running XP Pro, SP2 with all updates
current).

I'm not sure what to do now. Not sure what Profile Chooser is or
where it is found. Suggestions?

Thanks.

You don't mention it, but you must be running Windows, and I'd guess Win2000 or WinXP. This message is telling you that Windows failed to set your new custom monitor profile as the OS level profile for that monitor (and also failed to tell our application that it failed to do so). So your monitor is defaulting to sRGB, which isn't a real monitor profile, and doesn't have a set of videocard corrections in it, as a real monitor profile would, thus triggering this error message.

There we go, that confirms my suspicions...

Profile Chooser is a utility from ColorVision that appears in the Start Menu along with your Spyder application. You may be able to assign your monitor profile using it. If not, the sure fire, but inconvenient, method is to right click on the desktop, and navigate to your monitor configuration's advanced settings, color management section, and assign your custom profile there. This still won't flash the video corrections, so once you've done it you'll need to either restart your computer, or run Profile Chooser again to apply the video corrections. If you don't get this sorted out by yourself sending an email to colorvision support at the colorvision website will get you all the help you need.
