actual version aof Spider3Print

actual version aof Spider3Print

2008-01-01 by emarkscheffel

Hello,

at the end of october 2007 I downloaded the softare update für my
PrintFiXPro hardware named "Spider3PrintSetup.exe" with a size of app.
183 MB. After installation the version 3.0 and the library version 1,70
is shown.

Today I looked at the colorvision.ch page and found a file
Spyder3Print_win.zip.

After downloading and unzipping this file I found that it has the
name "Spyder3Print 3.0b3 Setup.exe" and a smaller size and an older
date 30.08.07 than the file downloaded in october above mentioned.

Here My question: which version is the actual version I should use.

Best Regard
Erhard (Germany)

The version currently listed on the US site for download (thus the official "current version") is Spyder3Print_win.zip at 149.63 MB, creationd date of Nov7, 2007. If in doubt, download from colorvision.com, not colorvision.ch. Final beta versions may be identical to release versions, but xN cause confusion, so we try to avoid having them up for public download...

Just noticed this Q & A so I did a check of my own copy of
Spyder3Print. Likewise my copy was v 3.0 Library 1.70. I am now
downloading the new version and would like to know what the
difference is to the previous version, and do I need to uninstall the
v 3.0 Library 1.70 that I installed last October? How come there was
no announcement of this release?

What you already have is the CORRECT version. It's RELEASE
version 3.0, library version 1.70.

Don't uninstall anything! What you already have is correct! Whenever
you see a "b" in a version number, it's generally used to denote
a "beta" (test, pre-release) version rather than a shipping, "release"
version.

Don't use the beta version from the colorvision.ch site, that's not the
correct version and they should be fixing it.

David,
Thanks for the reply, but I'm still am confused. As of yet, I've only
downloaded the version dated 7NOV07. I have not uninstalled the
version 3.0 LIB 1.70 which I downloaded and installed in late
October. The confusion is CDTobie stating that the version dated
7NOV07 is the latest.

"The version currently listed on the US site for download (thus the
official "current version") is Spyder3Print_win.zip at 149.63 MB,
creationd date of Nov7, 2007.

This particular version is a smaller file size(approx. 149.6 MB)
compared to the version I downloaded(approx. 178 MB) and installed 3
WEEKS EARLIER.
I have only downloaded from the US site, and it did not have a "b" in
it's version.
THUS THE CONFUSION!

Mionor dot updates often go unannounced. On the Mac, you can have multiple versions installed without issues, on Windows, its always best to only have one. Dot updates should install over the previous version, saving your measurement files. Fanatics can save their measurement files to a separate location, uninstall, install the new version, and put the measurement files into the new version's measurement file folder.

Any application that shows a "b" in the version in the About screen
(such as 3.0b3, which means 3.0"beta"3) is not a release.

There have been no updates to the software since the release in late
October, so na matter what date had been listed on the web site
(someone who put it there did so by mistake, apparently), what you
already have installed is the "release" and it's the only installer
that should have gone up on the web site.

Thank you for the reply. I will delete the "new" download. For the
record, what I originally downloaded(and what I am being told to keep)
was NOT a beta version,(it was not v.3.0b3). As I stated, I was just
confused because Mr. Tobie had said that the latest version was dated 7
NOV 07, and I had down loaded and installed 3.0 in late October. Also
the difference in file sizes(from 178 MB to 149 MB) added to the
confusion.

I am based in the UK, but can't get to colorvision.com to download
the non-beta version. Whenever I click on Support | Software Updates
from the home page, it directs me to the colorvision.ch site.

How do I download the non-beta version?

Thomas

We have recently integrated our downloads, so that either site should now take you to the same list of downloads. What we haven't done is to clean up the version numbers to avoid confusion. That should occur soon.

So if I understand you correctly, I should either use the beta or
revert to version 2? Which of those two options would you recommend?

There should be little or no difference between the final beta and the release version except the numbering... but using the release version is the safe choice. We simply need to clean up our downloads so that they are properly numbered to avoid this confusion.
