Using Profile Chooser with Spyder2 Pro

Using Profile Chooser with Spyder2 Pro

2008-01-18 by tech4x5

I have made a moniter calibration using DVI input and in the process
made adjustments using the moniter backlight control. I then make
another calibration using slightly different backlight adjustments. I
see both profiles in the Profile Chooser. Can I switch back and forth
between these two profiles using Profile Chooser if there has been a
change in the backlight settings?

Thanks.

Ideally, no. Not unless you change your hardware setting to reflect the different conditions under which the profiles were made. In a practical sense a minor change in backlight isn't a crisis, but why do it? Why have two profiles at all?

Thanks. That's what I thought. I have a good profile for my prints
and soft proofing, and that's the most important thing. But I was
hoping I could make another profile to use at other times when not
doing photography that would be a little brighter, and then be able
to just switch back and forth with the Profile Chooser. But I
understand this won't work if I've made hardware changes.

Thanks,

What "other times" are you referring to? Viewing the web?

One monitor profile should really do it all.

--- Hi John. I got my calibration working well thanks to your advice a
few days ago. My ambient light is moderately low and it recommends a
white luminance of 125 which I used and that gives me a nice match
between my moniter and prints. But the paper white on my moniter is a
little gray and when I use other programs like MS Word, the white
background is darker than I'd like. I thought if I could have another
calibration profile with a higher White luminance for these instances,
it would be nice, give me a little more contrast and punch for non
photo viewing. I guess I could try a profile with a higher White
Luminance and see if it works for both my photo work and other non
photo work. I'm just pretty happy with the moniter and photo print
match as is and I didn't want to mess with it.
