Calibrating Eizo CG301W with Spyder3

Calibrating Eizo CG301W with Spyder3

2008-04-19 by arnekolstad

Finally received the CG301W. It came with a test sheet stating that a max center deltaE of
1.9 was measured at the factory. I calibrated with the Spyder3and ColorNavigator several
times; D50 and D65, gamma 2.2 and L*.

After each calibration, I did a validation with the same instrument and got values of max
deltaE between 6 and 10, with an average of 3-5. I tried a Spyder2 as well and got max
deltaE between 15 and 20 with averages around 10.

My other equipment is a new Mac Pro, Nvidia 8800GT graphics card, OS 10.5.2.

A deltaE of 6-10 in several colors should be quite visible. The subjective color relationship
with the prints is not perfect, but it never is and there are too many factors involved to
make a good judgement without spending a lot of time that I do not have.

Should I worry about the quality of any of the equipment or the software? How meaningful
is this kind of validation using the same measurement instrument twice? Could people
with Eizo CG or CE monitors share their experience with ColorNavigator and the Spyder?
