Upgrading Print Calibration

Upgrading Print Calibration

2008-08-02 by outbacksubaru2001

I have the Spyder 2 Pro Studio with the Print Fix 1.2.
The print fix has also been a pain to use. Not only that,
the colour sheets that came with it for scanning, arrived scratched.
Support have never helped me with this.

I am considering two options for calibrating my printer, which is a
Canon i9900.

The first option is a all in one solution. The Color Munki Photo.
This would do my monitor and my printer. However, it does limit
my options for luminence setting of my Samsung P193+ monitor. Also,
I have read some of the users feedback, and I am not sure if this is
the way to go.

The second option would be to continue using my monitor calibration
device (Spyder 2.2 Pro Studio) and buy the Spyder 3 Print to work with
my existing monitor calibration device.

The price for either would be the same for me.

Will the spyder 2.2 pro monitor device and the spyder 3 print device
work together?

I am definately not interested in paying an additional $100 to get the
Colorimeter 3 when I have the 2.2 Colorimeter. As I have said before,
I have not been happy with their customer support.

Thanks for any of your help,

Lee

We discontinued all development and support on the "old" PrintFIX 1.2
more than 2 1/2 years ago, when we start shipping the first version
of PrintFIX PRO.

(Regardless: if you had scratched original materials, you should
have been able to get replacements for these from tech support, at the
time. If you've got emails and/or support tickets that show you asked
about this and didn't get a response, I'll be glad to look at them.
Just email me at davem@... for this).

Those limits are only with respect with display calibration. For
printer profiling, (and I've tried this), there are many other
limits you'll come up against with the ColorMunki.

If you haven't already read the following reviews, have a look at:
the following. Keith Cooper has done an excellent job of covering
just about everything imaginable in both sets of products:

ColorMunki review (overall) from Northlight Images:

ColorMunki printer-profiling0-specific review from Northlight Images:

And for an overall comparison of profile quality, look at:

http://lists.apple.com/archives/colorsync-users/2008/Jul/msg00001.html

(this is particularly useful as a comparison for Spyder3Print, which
rates as highly as the more expensive 3rd party profiling options,
vs. ColorMunki, which rates lower)

Yes, that will work.

Yes. Display profiling and printer profiling are two separate processes,
using separate sensors. You can use your Spyder2PRO 2.2-generated
display
calibration, and use Spyder3Print perfectly well.

When was the last time you contacted customer support? I think you'll
find
from discussion on this list that the vast majority of people have had
a very different experience.
