printfix software version?

printfix software version?

2008-09-14 by bill_hansen20012001

I'm going to have to start from the very beginning to re-profile
both monitor and printer. Before I do that, I need to know I have
the latest and greatest equipment available to me.

My copy of PrintFix Pro 2.0 indicates that it is "library version
1.65". A recent note to this group mentioned that there is a
software version 3.5. I assume this is a later version of the
software than the one I have, but I'm confused by the different
terms "library version" and "software version".

Should I be searching for and downloading a new software version? I
notice on the Datacolor web site that a version 2.3.5 is designed
for Windows with 64 bit processing (which I don't have) but has no
new features.

(Yes, I've also decided that I will upgrade to the Spyder 3 - but
that's a separate issue.)

Thanks - Bill Hansen

PrintFIX PRO 2.0 is 3 major revisions "old". (You've missed 2.1,
Spyder3Print 3.0, and the current 3.5 beta)

The name of the software has changed to Spyder3Print. It will
ask you for your software serial number again (starts with 890710-)
when you install and launch it.

"Software version" has to do with the main application. "Library
version" has to do with the profiling library that runs inside of
it. (This is my way of keeping track of whether one, or the other,
or both of these major components has changed).

You should download and install the Spyder3Print 3.5 "public beta 2"
version that's on the Support:Software Updates section on the web
site. (Technically, this is software version 3.5b9, and you'll see
it identify itself that way when you launch it). Also, download
the Update Notes file that goes along with it so that you can read,
in detail, about the changes that have been made.

That's for Spyder2 display calibration software only; it's got some
internal updates like that, but no new features. Spyder3 software
for display calibration (Spyder3Elite, and Pro) are where the new
work and feature development have been happening... this is where
you'll see newer versions appearing in the future.

Spyder3Print - Spyder3 Pro

2008-09-15 by bill_hansen20012001

Mr Miller -

Thanks for your reply. RE: Spyder3Print printer calibration system -
the serial number of the printer calibration system I have begins
with "201710 -8.....-......" That sounds to me as if I might not be
able to upgrade without purchasing an entirely new unit. Am I
correct that I'd have to purchase a new target reader (I think I
remember that you're not calling them "colorimeters") and the
program, for $500? If so, a time may come when I'll do that, but I
can't justify it right now. I'd love to have the additional
accuracy, but maybe I'll have to stay with what I have for a while
longer.

The monitor calibration upgrade, Spyder3Pro, comes with its own
upgraded Spyder, for $169 - am I correct on that? That much, I can
justify now.

Thanks for clarifying this for me.

You're looking at the wrong serial number, it's as simple
as that (fortunately)!

You're already running PrintFIX PRO; that means you DO have the
Datacolor 1005 spectro; and that you DO have a serial number that starts
with 890710. When you launch the PrintFIX PRO software, it will
come up and display all of that serial number (and you'll also
see it in the "About" dialog), minus the last 4 digits, which are
X'd out.

As I said before, you can simply download, install, and use
Spyder3Print 3.5 as a free upgrade; it won't cost you a penny.

Before you do this: let's just make sure your serial number is
correct; email me off-list at davem@... and I'll get
you set.

Yes, you would get Spyder3Pro, which gives you the new Spyder3 sensor
and software. You would simply install that (new display calibration
hardware and software) and use them in place of your older Spyder2
hardware and software.

You will not need to spend any additional money on printer profiling
at all. Your sensor is what we continuing to ship, and all you need
is the newer software to bring yourself up to date.
