Consistent LCD profiles

Consistent LCD profiles

2008-11-19 by bill_hansen20012001

Trying again - I see that my question about this dated 11/17 did not
make it to the group messages. Using Spyder3 Pro,I need a way to
assure that LCD Brightness remains constant, as I re-profile my LCD
monitor over the months and years.

The monitor's native brightness is far too bright to give
satisfactory photo displays or prints, and Spyder3 adjustments
(eyeballing the gradations of the white squares while adjusting the
monitor's brightness) won't bring it back into line. I've adjusted
it to a satisfactory level by trial and error, and then have gone
back to my Spyder 2 in order to get numerical values for the
monitor's brightness. Using Spyder 2 to readjust the brightness each
time I re-profile the monitor works fine, but of course it's
cumbersome and a bit more time consuming.

I just can't believe that Spyder3 doesn't allow for standardization
of LCD monitor brightness.

Previously I was told to "just create a 100 candela target". I don't
know what a "100 candela target" is, how to create one, or how to
use it. Can anyone point me toward instructions on this?

Some of you must know how to standardize LCD brightness with the
Spyder 3 Pro. It just isn't believeable that one has to move up to
the Elite version in order to profile an LCD monitor.

Thanks – Bill Hansen

Spyder3Pro allows for targeting an appropriate white luminance level (brightness) for your display, and keeping it to that same standard over time. You are just looking in the wrong place for it. S3Pro is a "numbers-free" application, the geek stuff like candela values is left for the high end product Spyder3Elite. To get an appropriate white luminance target in Pro, choose the ambient light option, and it will tell you which of the five "zones" your amblent light is in If its higher than medium, lower it, if you want to run your monitor relatively dim, then lower your ambient even more, until the software reports moderately dim. Once you have an appropriate ambient light level, then Pro will use an appropriate white luminance target to coordinate with that, and will put up a bar that shows your current value and your target value, to allow you to adjust your display until it hits the ideal value. It will continue to do this, to the same value, indefinately, so you will have your desired set of results: an appropriate white lumiance target, that you can keep your display set to over time. What you WON'T have is numerical reporting of that value, or numerical targeting, or the ability to set other numerical target values. That what Elite is for.

Be sure you are using the latest build of Spyder3Pro before you start. 3.0.4 is currently available; 3.0.5 will be out shortly. If you want more controls, upgrade to Spyder3Elite by sending a ticket to our customer service staff at the Support section of our website.
