Matching Monitor to Print

Matching Monitor to Print

2008-11-25 by robert49brake

Here is a copy of part of a post to DigitalB&Wthe print from cdtobie:

What white luminance is your display offering once profiled? LCDs that
are not specifically lowered to a luminance appropriate the the
ambient lighting will almost always produce this "prints are darker
than screen" result. I could describe how to fix this with Spyder
products...

Is there something already assembled that describes this technique?

I use a Spyder2/PFP setup for my monitor/printer profiles. For a monitor I use a ViewSonic
VP930b. I profiled the monitor at 70% contrast and 50% brightness and I get fairly good
matches but am wondering if there is a more accurate way of doing it.

Thanks, Robert

Spyder2 does not offer luminance adjustment. Spyder2Pro did, and Spyder3Pro and Elite both do, though with different degrees of detail. With Spyder2, you are already doing the right thing, by dimming your display before profiling. There is no way to quantify that adjustment, however, without upgrading.
