color profiles Mac/PC

color profiles Mac/PC

2006-03-16 by Doug Lenos

I am Mac stupid... is the color profile created w/ PFP usable on both platforms? Do they support the same file format?
I have a Mac user in my office that would like to see if I can profile our color printer. I should be able to print a target sheet, take home, read it and bring back the icc file that we both could use - me on PC / him on Mac... is that correct?

Yes ... its exactly the same format. The MAC just tends to make the
extension named ICC while Windows likes to use ICM. You can literaly
rename them between the two systems.

Please don't spread that old "rename the extention to move between platforms" superstition! Both extensions are accepted on both platforms, by both OSes...

Thats correct, I've made countless profiles on one platform from targets printed on the other platform, and emailed the profiles back to the platform of origin with no problems. Works both ways.
