I've Tried Searching The Forum, but.............

2010-11-04 by jimbiker@rocketmail.com

Hello,
I've tried searching the forum, but the subject and task is daunting, too much confusing info. So here it is in a nutshell-
I'm running a MacPro tower, Snow Leopard 10.6.4, printing on HP B9180, I just purchased Spyder3Print SR.
When I want to print a target for profiling, in the "Profiling-Print Target" window I click "Print". The "Page Setup" window is standard, I click "OK". In the "Print" dialog window I select "Color Matching" and click "Vendor Matching". Then move down to "Paper Type/Quality". I make my paper selection, then "Maximum dpi". At the bottom of this page is the problem! When I open the "Color Options" section and I only have 3 options, ColorSmart/sRGB, GrayScale, and Adobe RGB (1998). Am i missing an option here, seems like there should be a "no color management" option? Or is the default "ColorSmart/sRGB" correct.

Hope I didn't make this to complicated.
Thanks in advance, Jim

There is "supposed" to be a setting there for you to turn off color management (in the past,
it would have been "Application Managed Colors" for HP drivers), but in the latest HP drivers
with Snow Leopard, this setting has disappeared. (Same problem with Canon drivers, which don't
have their previous "None" setting under Snow Leopard). Only Epson continues to provide an
"Off (No Color Management)" setting in their drivers for Snow Leopard (and to get it, Epson
users have to choose "Epson Color Controls" (not ColorSync) in the Color Matching pane of the
driver).

Back to HP. There's a workaround to the disappearing setting, which works for both HP and
Canon printers.

- Choose ColorSync (not "Vendor Matching") in the Color Matching pane.

- In the Profile popup beneath that: click in the popup and use the "Other Profiles..." command
at the bottom to see a list of all the profiles on your system. If you're running Leopard, choose
"Generic RGB". If you're running Snow Leopard, choose "sRGB".

- That's all you need to do, other than choose your paper type, output quality/resolution, etc.

Thanks David,
In my searching the group I've noticed your name and posting more then once (smile).
It seem to me that your connected with DataColor, but still your contribution to this forum is above and beyond.....
Thanks again for your help in solving my problem, at least one of them, lol. I still have more questions but I'll continue to search before I ask.

Thanks, Jim

We have a dual identity on this list under that name (that is to say: there are two of us named David, from Datacolor, who answer questions, above and beyond the call of duty, on this list), and in this case I believe we both responded. And, I believe we both gave you about the same answer, which is always nice...

The two of us actually ran into list members recently when we were out to dinner together in NYC, after a day working at PhotoPlus Expo. I suspect it was the "Spyder" shirts that gave us away...
