Spyder4 Elite Studio Match Brightness

Spyder4 Elite Studio Match Brightness

2012-01-18 by Rollin H

I just received the Spyder4 Elite package and installed it. I did a calibration of both of my monitors to 100 cd/m2, 6500K, 2.2 Gamma and the two monitors appear visually to be the same or extremely close. I decided to try the Studio Match function but am having a problem specifying the brightness level.

The screen identifies the two monitors and shows one set to 100 and the other to 99 cd/m2 but shows a recommended setting of 89. When I try to override this to 100 or 99, it still shows the target of 89 after taking a reading. Both monitors are capable of a brightness greater than 100 cd/m2. I do not seem to be able to override the suggested setting of 89.

Am I doing something wrong?

System: Windows 7, 64 bit
Montitors: Eizo ColerEdge CG222W
            Dell Ultrasharp U2410
Spyder: Sypder4 Elite 4.5

Thanks

StudioMatch will define a brightness that all displays can reach. Apparently it feels that one or more connected display can't match a higher standard. I am not aware of it having a ten percent buffer, though having at least a small buffer would be appropriate, to assure that all displays continue to be able to reach the target value over time.

Re: Spyder4 Elite Studio Match Brightness

Thanks for the reply. I just checked the lowest level on the Dell monitor by running a calibration and with the brightness set to it's lowest point, I got a 96 cd/m2 which means, as I see it, that I cannot match the suggested level for the studio match option if the Dell is part of the mix.

Any idea what the software is basing the decision as to the level all monitors can reach?

StudioMatch does not check minimum values, only maximum ones. Since all it does is define a gamma, whitepoint, and luminance for all displays, and this is not working for you, just use the standard mode, and set both displays to the same values, which both can reach, and you'll be done.
