OT: Dropbox Alternative with TONS more free space

OT: Dropbox Alternative with TONS more free space

2013-05-24 by johnvphoto

Hi Everyone,

John V... the owner of this group here!

Just wanted to give a heads up that there's a new alternative to Dropbox called Copy. Works pretty much the same as Dropbox but you start out with 15GB and earn 5GB more for each person you refer.

Here's my link if you don't mind using it: https://copy.com/?r=qRZo6d It will give you an extra 5GB for using it too, so you'll be at 20GB instead of 15GB.

Many Thanks,

John V. - Datacolor User to User Support Group - Owner

I saw that show up but it's hardly a Dropbox alternative. Dropbox is awesome and one thing that makes it great is support.

Apps and systems have Dropbox support but it will be a lot of time if ever (most likely never) that Copy is supported. Look at Sugarsync, no software supports integration with it even though it is fairly popular.

If you just want sync support I'm sure it is fine yet not proven. But I use Dropbox daily and the beauty of it is integration with many systems. You can get almost 30gb on a free Dropbox account if the main reason is space. I'm sure they will be upgrading it soon as space is getting cheaper by the day and they haven't done any major changes for a while.

Thanks Christopher!

Yes I do love Dropbox... syncs/backs-up my 1Password, Contacts and Transmit and more apps. Don't know how well Copy can sync apps or other capabilities but I just like the free storage space of 15GB+ to start.

I've never heard of Sugarsync... so maybe Copy will take a different approach and give Dropbox a run for it's money!

Best,

John

Maybe, but imho I doubt it.
Dropbox does a really good job at what it does. I prefer a different security policy (I don';t like how they lied about not being able to read your files, then later saying yes they can if the government requests them, but shows employees can and do look at files).

The clincher as always is standards, everything supports Dropbox, that's a feature you can't just add to a new service, it will have to be absolutely amazing to get around that. Because there are clones to Dropbox, there have been for a long time now, yet no one bothers to support them in apps like the one you mentioned 1Password.

I saw copy, and thought about signing up just to get an account started, but didn't feel it was worth the effort as a little more space isn't even remotely worth losing dropbox. As more players come in, Dropbox will get even more aggressive with their space. But it is pretty easy to get around 20GB w/ Dropbox on a free account. I have 28GB on 5 of my accounts.
