New Spyder4Pro...Major Camera Raw issues

New Spyder4Pro...Major Camera Raw issues

2013-07-10 by papatonepictures

Hi All. I'm brand new to color calibration. I calibrated a Spyder4Pro to my Dell laptop, with an NVidia card in it. I shot a wedding this past weekend, and my aim was to be able to get true(er) color in my images, as my laptop's screen had a blue tint. The Spyder fixed the OS color balance, but now when I go into Adobe Camera Raw to look at images, you can watch as, one by one, the color is sucked out of each image, as if there's some sort of color vampire leaving each image a grim, gray version of is previous self. I've checked a few discussion venues and found now help. I did find one user who had the same problem, but if she ever found a solution, she never posted it.

I'm confused; even if I turn of the Spyder Color Management completely, I'm getting the same issue. Can someone help me?

The OS level color balance you are seeing is the Video LUT calibration. The color change you are seeing in your images is the display profile. They are both created by the Spyder, but they are not the same thing. You can't "turn off" the profile. You would need to assign another profile at the OS level.

You don't make it clear if you are using only the internal display on the Dell (less than ideal for color managed work) or if you are using an external display connected to the Dell. If its an external display, it's possible that the Dell video card can't hold two profiles at once.

In that case reprofile the external display, and set that as the profile for both displays, and see if that solves your problem. This will require having the Spyder Utility running; that can't be shut off under most versions of Windows without losing your color management.

If you are using only the internal display there are a couple things you can try. Again, you need the Utility turned on. Then try recalibrating the display, making sure there are no energy savers, screen dimmers or other functions interfering. And check that there are no other background utilities that are flashing the video card. These often come in the firm of software from the video card company other than the basic video card driver. Turn any such utilities off.

If this doesn't do it, you will have to start a support ticket at Datacolor.com to get more detailed assistance.
