Spyder3 upgrade

Hello,


I have a Spyder3 pro but I'm now running Mavericks on all my systems and I don't think there is system support for the older model.

I believe there are options to upgrade to new systems or should I be looking at buying the new package from scratch?

I edit for Film and TV and also work with graphic design for print. Thought I should mention that as I can see so many new options for a variety of professionals.

Any advice welcome.

Hello,

Spyders are hardware; so "upgrades" really don't exist, they way they do (or at least used to do!) in software. What does exist is marketing programs in various countries, which sometimes include upgrade offers to existing customers. But its really not a matter of an upgrade program, its a matter of what the best price you can find in your country at a given time is, under any program or from any reseller.

Spyder4Elite does include calibration standards for video and graphic design that you don't get in Spyder3Pro, so if you are interested in calibrating to Rec709 etc, that would be one more reason for looking for a good price on a new Spyder4. B&H Photo's website for the US, for example, is currently offering a $30 instant rebate on Spyder4Elite, plus free shipping. You can check around and see what the best deal in your country from the various vendors is.

hi mr tobie,

i started out with spider 3 elite then got an upgrade to spider 4 and then to spider 4.2 for lion. i have just upgraded to maverick and downloaded spider 4 elite but it wouldn’t recognize my sensor #001045642. do i need to begin with my original spider 3 elite disk and upgrade from there . . .

I believe you are mistaking (understandably) the Spyder3 v4.0 software update with the Spyder4 hardware. If you download Spyder4 software, it will not function with your Spyder3 device.

it was working on lion. i just tried to install spider 3 elite on my machine and it says that power pc applications are no longer supported. so what do i do now . . .

I believe you are mistaking (understandably) the Spyder3 v4.0 software update with the Spyder4 hardware. If you download Spyder4 software, it will not function with your Spyder3 device.

The Spyder3 applications are dual executables, including both PPC and Intel native code. Rosetta is not needed to run them. So the message you note should only be seen if it is actually Spyder2 (PPC-only) that you are installing, or if you are dragging a PPC install of Spyder3 from an older computer to a newer one. A fresh install of the latest installer from the Datacolor website should do the trick. If not, then you may have some issue caused by the older version causing the new install to install the incorrect components. If you can't solve this yourself, you'll need to set up a support ticket at datacolor.com.
