Spyder4 Pro colorimeter

Most people who read this group are probably familiar with my several months' struggle to get a monitor calibration which allows prints to match monitor appearance. Even with the monitor calibrated to 121 cd/m^2 (yes, that is the correct number) I'm still getting prints much darker than monitor appearance. This is consistent across three different printer profiles - the Epson "canned" profile, a custom profile I made myself using the SpyderPRINT package, and a custom printer profile made by Michael Gordon of Great Printer Profiles.
Color management is correct - correct paper type, ICM checked OFF in the printer driver, "photoshop manages colors" when printing.
I've begun to think that the colorimeter for my SpyderPro monitor calibration package is out of spec, so I'm considering purchase of a new colorimeter. I only need to calibrate the LCD monitor of my main computer, so I'm wondering if there's any advantage to the Elite version of the colorimeter, over the less expensive SP4P100 version.
