Maybe they are using one channel (L/R?) which is an digitized analog signal that contains the MIDI information. In other words, it needs to be 'demodulated' kinda like a modem. Then the digital information at that particular channel has the MIDI information. The other channel has the digitized audio which is multiplexed with (L/R) information that will be heard in the left and right speakers. This would explain why someone mentioned the other day that they heard a buzzing signal coming out of one speaker when played over a normal CD player. All this could then be demodulated (MIDI) and de-multiplexed (audio) from the CD within the electronics in the piano. That type of CD could be easily copied with any 'working' CD copy software. However, this type of CD would require a specialized electronic design to create it...
