there are a whole bunch of ways that people have used. i have a blog entry that describes how i do it on my LX pianos. it is pretty much the same. to me, this is an incredible way to have full control but it involves installing a couple of addons to Media Monkey and that is not real easy to do and to configure. You can use the same free remote access program to control a simple MIDI file player such as VanBascos or my free file player available on my web site. there are many ways to accomplish the same thing. i am not saying mine is the best especially if you are playing MIDI because it is a lot of work to figure out. My LX plays from MP3 files and since it plays them without temporal (or other) distortions it works great and i don't have to bother with the MIDI stuff. unfortunately the DKV does not play as well from MP3 files so MIDI is better but much more work.

Spencer, how would I play wirelessly, even with Dk-850, on a mark II dk?
Sami find it difficult to understand why anyone would want to bother with floppies. you can make and play an endless variety of playlists from the computer, can do it wirelessly etc etc. if i had music on floppies, the first thing i would do is copy it to a computer and or backup drive.

Bill - that would be great! I was told by Yamaha service that there was no service manual for this, that i was on my own. I was also told that the disklavier technicians at Faust harrison Pianos in NYC were not trained to install floppy drives, and did not know how to do it.
Can you suggest any other viable options (besides just bypassing it with MIDI) to buying and installing a new floppy drive?

Hi, I'm director of The Keyboard Collective in NYC.
I am the lucky owner of a disklavier! My brother, a fine pianist with several pianos, had an MPX100II sitting in his basement for 18 years that was barely used, and gave it to me a s a gift.
Unfortunately, the floppy drive was not reading or writing by the time the movers got it to my apt. I contacted Yamaha and can replace it (for $300), and would have to install it myself unless I want to pay another $300 to a technician.
I'm thinking I can do it myself (I have installed hard drives in computers) but there will be no instructions. Any advice would be appreciated.
I have hooked up the disklavier to my desktop through MIDI and have accessed all the wonderful public domain MIDI performances available, so I'm using the disklaver all the time. Also play it silently using Synthogy Ivory virtual pianos - beautiful.
Would appreciate any thoughts on the floppy, and will look for other tips and tricks. Glad to join this community.
