I used 4 inch foam and it's not touching the soundboard. I totally agree with those that say that the piano should be used as manufactured and when I’m using it that is the way I would use it. But I can also see the advantage of using foam that can be easily used and removed so that you can create an ambience setting of your own acoustic piano providing the background music in certain settings.
