My good friend Donal is correct in what he says.

 

The E3 has the ability to play softer than any Disklavier Yamaha has produced.

 

If the piano is playing louder than it should, then most likely it needs to be calibrated.

 

If calibration is performed and the calibration completes without errors, then it will be playing its softest with the volume set to -10.

 

It is possible that the piano is playing as soft as it can, but the customer feels it is still too loud. If this is the case, the customer will need to be reminded that it is a piano and pianos can only play so softly. At this point the volume of the piano will need to be dealt with acoustically - such as using acoustic foam baffles below the soundboard.
