Spencer,
Thanks for the encouragement, as well as your contributions to recovering
many past performance titles. Our community of piano performance
enthusiasts is a small one, but with many people that freely share
experience, and many hours of work in preserving performance art. The
task of recovering old paper piano rolls, and converting them to midi,
allows other artists to build on the piece, and add full orchestration.
Also, then being able to print the musical score, as it was initially
performed is a step toward preserving the past. As these methods get
better and better, it is amazing to have Gershwin perform on your piano,
in your own living room, with a nuance that only he could provide.

Brad,
good luck. i often find myself in similar positions. i am very good with
electronics, about 40 years experience and have even kept up with modern
methods. i can fix pretty much anything and can read all but the worst
schematics. the problem is that companies like Yamaha tend to keep this
information to themselves. there are plenty of companies who see the
benefit to both customers and to their company, to freely share this
information. my guess is that Yamaha will never be one of these companies
but i would certainly like to be proven wrong.

Carol,
A little more background. This problem has gotten worse over the last 10
Months. When the problem first started, the piano would play for about 40
Minutes, before the problem occurred. I could actually play an entire
Pianosoft diskette before it started happening. Around this time, I also
upgraded the firmware in the DKC100R controller, because it would not read
IBM formatted diskettes. The firmware fixed that problem, after a couple
tries(bad firmware on the shelf). I started using the system more because
I could buy titles that I could download from Yamaha and play. My system
has the MU50 sound module as well. The problem slowly got worse, with
shorter and shorter play times, before the error occurred. Now the system
will fault at the first song on a disk.
I took the cover off the foot pedal solenoid mechanism, and disconnected
the solenoids, but same issue. Watching the solenoids, it seems like the
power to them is weak, as the sustain solenoid, only actuated about half
of it’s travel. I disconnected the linkages, and it would travel the
whole distance. Still no help, about 30 seconds of song play.
I truly think the power supply is not working up to capacity, and then
causing the shutdown. That is why I am looking for a schematic, and
service manual, so I can test it, and see if it needs to be reworked.
The power supply is not an in-expensive item, and I don’t want to replace
it, unless I know it is the cause of the problem. Also I would much
rather fix than replace. I have a background in electronics, so I have no
problem tackling the repair, but I prefer to not do it blindly. A
schematic, with test voltages, and testing points, as well as a history of
common failures would be of great assistance. Since I retired, I watch
how I spend a lot more carefully. I don’t want to just parts swap for the
purpose of troubleshooting. I want to make sure that what I buy will
solve the problem.

Thanks Carol,
Could this have been caused by moving the piano to a new location? I did
not have this problem until the piano was moved. It was in storage for
about 6 months.
This link does not contain a Service manual though, is there still one
more manual?
Thanks again… Brad

This could be a damper pedal solenoid out of adjustment. When it heats
up it shuts down the entire system. If it was a power supply it probably
would not start to play at all. An experienced Disklavier tech is best
equipped to make this adjustment. Otherwise you will find it in the
service manual or the maintenance manual instructions how to do this.

Hi All,
I am looking for a Service Manual and Schematics for MarkII DKC100R
I am Having a “PWM over” error, shortly after starting playback, so I am
looking for a Service Manual with Schematics for the Solenoid Power
supply, and any good advice on tests, and what to look for.
That’s a good starter discussion.
Thanks for your Help… Brad
