anyway, it would be great if someone came up with a good name for this sort of file? Audio encoded MIDI maybe?

I've never heard of an "analog MIDI format". MIDI is an acronym for Musical Instrument DIGITAL Interface. Please explain.

There are programs that convert dkv files into MIDI files, I would think there is one for Pianodiscs as well.

Hi Dave,
Although I have not personally tried any PianoDisc CDs with my Disklavier, my understanding is that not all PianoDisc CDs are compatible with the Disklavier.
Here's a comment made by Mark Fontana from an earlier post (see URL pasted below):
"PianoDisc CDs made after mid-2005 include a rudimentary protection mechanism that adds garbage notes to the performance in an attempt to thwart playback on competitors' systems; CDs with this protection scheme are labeled "Silent Drive Plus". I'm not sure whether Yamaha supports such CDs yet. All PianoDisc CDs dated 2004 and earlier should play fine."

I have a bunch of PianoDisc CDs that I'd love to play on my Disklavier. Is there a utility that will convert them?
