this blog has some information on playing the LX computer using Media Monkey. search for LX http://spencersviews.blogspot.com/ the same applies to the DKV. using Media Monkey is the best way to play, bar none but there are a couple of complications to make it really good. MM out of the box does not play midi files so you need to find and install the addon. then if you want to display meta data you need another addon for that and you need to create a database with the meta data. meta data is a problem for any midi files because no one agrees as to how to annotate them. for this reason it is really best to convert your midi files to audio files using mid2pianocd. then you can use the many tagging tools including mine for MP3 files. i forget which DKVs work with mp3 files but if you make really high quality files i think there would not be a problem.
another possibility is my free midi file player from my web site on the download page. spencerserolls.com it was written specifically for my files that have metadata in keywords that the program will display in collection and playlist windows. i have tools to add this data from text files and make these programs available to anyone who wants to use them.
i also have other tools that rename files with long file names based on information in the track name. this can all get very complicated but i know of at least a few people who set up systems with tens of thousands of files.

Thank you all for the suggestion. I am also looking into using MIDI connection to my laptop. Of course MIDI and Windows 8 dont seem to like each other anymore so it looks like its going to be a bit tricky, but i should get through directing the output to a MIDI device with some registry edits.
My biggest issue with this approach has been finding a MIDI PLAYER that will allow me to load thousands of MIDI files or playlists and then let them play continuously on the Disklavier. Any suggestions for the best products out there to play the files?
thanks Again
