Disklavier

Good morning, everyone.

I can’t explain what is going on with local area networks and the Disklavier, but I can tell you what is working for me at this moment with both the Mark IV and the DKC-850. I presume that the E3 behaves in the same way as the DKC-850.

OS X 10.11 El Capitan

Upon restarting my computer, neither the Mark IV nor the DKC-850 show up as shard devices on my network in the Finder. However, they may eventually show up after a long delay.

If I use the Finder menu Go : Connect to Server…, I can access the Mark IV by entering its IP address as follows:

smb://192.168.1.20

(Note: 192.168.1.20 is the local IP address of my Mark IV. Yours probably has a different address.)

When I do this, I can log into the Mark IV hard drive as a guest and access FromToPC, DNA, and other folders in the Finder.

This trick does not currently work with the DKC-850. So, I resort to MuCommander. When using MuCommander, I enter the IP address for the DKC-850 in the same way.

After I have found a way to access each of the Disklaviers over the network, I see that both have shown up as shard devices in the Finder. However, the Mark IV is the only shared device that is actually accessible in the Finder.

OS X 10.10.5 Yosemite

Neither the Mark IV nor the DKC-850 show up in the Finder. I can get access to the Mark IV using the Go to Server trick mentioned above or MuCommander. However, I cannot use either trick to get access to the DKC-850.

OS X 10.7.5 Lion

Neither the Mark IV nor the DKC-850 show up in the Finder. I can get access to the Mark IV using the Go to Server trick mentioned above but cannot use that method to get access to the DKC-850.

MuCommander will access either piano.

OS X 10.6.8 Snow Leopard

Both the Mark IV and the DKC-850 show up immediately in the Finder. I can get access to the Mark IV with no difficulty. I cannot get access to the DKC-850 (even though I can see it) and the Go to Server trick mentioned above does not work.

MuCommander will access either piano.

Thanks Iheitzeb1, I guess the wireless connection must be the answer since I get nothing anything under "network" and any attempt to use the "go to folder" with the prompt "smb://dkv..." brings nothing. Samething with the "connect to server" : nothing works ( I tried with different syntaxes etc. So probably through wifi the Mac connects with the bridge which in its turns connect to the DKC...

I found the post where Georges Frederick Litterst says that the Mac finder from 10.7 cannot see the dkc and its suggestion to use mucommander:

I have learned officially that the E3/DKC-850 cannot be accessed by the Mac Finder in OS X 10.7 and OS X 10.8. However, there is a free program called muCommander (http://www.mucommander.com) that will provide access to the From/To PC folder.

The program presents a window with a split screen. On one side, you access the directory of your Mac. On the other side, you access the E3/DKC-850. To access the E3/DKC-850, you must specify SMB as the protocol and put in an address s imilar to this:

smb://dkv4d073d

To find the "dkv" number for your Disklavier, you can do either of two things:

(1) Note what dkv number shows up in the sidebar of a Finder window in the "SHARED" section.

or

(2) On your Disklavier, go to Setup : Network : Information : Name

When you use muCommander to log into your Disklavier, a window will pop up asking for a username and password. You can log in as a guest wit hout a username and password.

NOTE: muCommander will only give you access to the From/To PC folder. If you want more functionality than that, you should get DKVBrowser (http://dkvbrowser.sourceforge.net). To use DKVBrowser, you'll need to identify the current IP address for your E3/DKC-850. To do so, go to Setup : Network : Information : IPAddr.

Now there maybe other workaround... I will eventually try to find a wifi bridge to test the wireless connection.
