Ed, a few questions and suggestions: What 2 programs are you trying? eMedia Piano and Keyboard Method, Version 3. (http://www.emediamusic.com/keyboard-piano-lessons/beginner-piano-method.html ) and web based Piano Marvel (http://www.pianomarvel.com/product-overview ) I just have the 30 day free trial for Piano Marvel What MIDI interface did you get? Mio Midi to USB Interface (http://www.iconnectivity.com/products/midi/mio ) In both cases, do these applications show your new interface as an available MIDI Input and Output device? (If so, I am assuming that you have chosen the interface for MIDI input.) -Yes With the new interface, do both programs successfully send MIDI data to the piano and its tone generator? No If everything is connected, configured, and working correctly except that your piano is not sending MIDI data to these apps, then I recommend double-checking these items: Seems to work OK for me playing the piano and sending that data to either program. What doesn’t work is either software, when playing the lesson it does not play, or play correctly on my piano. I should be able to hear it actually being played and watch the keys moving so that when I play I can attempt to do as well. (1) Verify that you can record a piece on your Disklavier. If successful, we know that the piano is sensing your playing. Yes, records fine. (2) Disklavier MIDI Out = Keyboard Out Yes (3) MIDI Out Channel = 1. Yes (4) MIDI Out Prg = ### Yes (6) MIDI Out Vol. = ### Yes (7) MIDI Out Split set to [OFF] Yes (8) MIDI toggle switch on the back of the control unit is set to MIDI. Yes If your apps still do not receive MIDI data when you play the keys, try playing an ensemble recording from disk (i.e. recording with both piano and ensemble parts) and see if the applications respond to anything. Sometimes, depending on what “Piano” is set to, I will get ensemble playing through speakers but either nothing on keys, something on keys, or wrong octaves, etc, etc. on keys. Seems that my playing and sending to either program seems to work on just about any midi channel you choose. I have tried many but am leaving it at Ch 1. The piano part outputs from either program will not play properly on the keyboard regardless of what choices I make for Piano Part and I have tried many channels, Prg, Prg(all), HP, etc. Back in the old days when I had Windows 95 with “Teach Me Piano” and the Yamaha special “To Host” cable out to serial port on older computers and switch set to PC2, that setup worked fine. Maybe it is just old technology in my Mark II XG? I was going to buy some more teaching software (http://www.playgroundsessions.com/ ) but if I can’t get the lessons to play actually on the piano, I’m missing part of the instruction. I don’t want to hear it through the computer speakers. I think I have tried almost every combination of settings for the Piano Part so maybe I can just get some practice by playing the notes – at least that is something. Really appreciate all your efforts! Will still fiddle with it when I have time, maybe miracle will happen. Ed
