I took the question from the beginning and I did this:
On iPad with safari I went to kuhmann.com/Yamaha.htm . On that page I selected a Midi folder to my liking just by clicking on it: comes up a new page with option to "open with". I choose to open it with an app on my iPad which is called "Downloader" (by savysoda). Then it opens in that app with a blabk page but on the top right there is the icon for exporting to so by clicking it i choose to send it to my dropbox. Then I go to the sweet midi app and on the files page i tap on the dropbox download icon (left top), than i choose the midi file previously imported there from 3Download" app and i find it finally in the list of the files available for playing in the Sweet midi... A bit tedious but possible... Also Dropbox or iCloud are alternatives to the Itunes import. (those options are available on the latest (?) version 3.6.0 of sweet midi on my latest iPad but NOT on my old iPad which has the sweet midi version 2.5.0 installed.)
Hope it helps
