Re: [disklavier] Read the disklavier disk in computer

Good morning everyone,

In a message dated 1/10/02 11:21:24 AM, Carol writes:

<< Your MPX100II is the same piano as the MX100II except that is has the
Silent
feature. It only supports MIDI format 0 files (as well as ESEQ)and 2DD
disks. Most of the MIDI files you find on the internet are MIDI format 1
files, so you will have to convert them to MIDI format 0 before you can use
them.

All you need to do is format a 2DD disk (720 k,one hole) in IBM format on
your computer. Just drag and drop the MIDI format 0 files onto the disk and
you should be good to go. >>

This is an excellent explanation. Let me add that you should avoid putting
anything on the disk other than Type 0 SMFs. Note, also, that the earliest
Mark II Disklaviers have ROM chips that need updating in order to play these
SMFs. I suggest that you try a properly configured disk to see if this works.
If it does not, we may need to determine the version of the ROM chip.

Note, further, that you do not have full use of the various transport contr
ols on the Disklavier or remote when playing SMFs on a Mark II. For example,
the search function does not work for SMFs. In other words, support for SMFs
is not really complete.

Another solution--and a much better one in my opinion--is to have the offical
Mark II-->Mark IIXG upgrade installed. This will give you full support for
both SMF Types 0 and 1, high density disks, and a tone generator (which is
need for so many of the files that you encounter).

A complete upgrade will involve removal of the upper panel of the instrument
in which the control unit is housed, removal of the control unit,
installation of a new panel that has no control unit built in, and new
control unit that either sits on top or that can be mounted beneath the keys.
