Floppy Drive

2016-02-12 by Gmail

Hi All,
I am one of the original people that got a floppy drive Emulator working with my disklavier Mx-80 piano.
I love it since I never have to swap floppys. You just select a different floppy image that is stored on the
SD card on the emulator menu and the piano controller acts exactly as if you inserted a new floppy.
There is some work in copying and converting the floppys to the SD card.
A standard IBM floppy drive will NOT work. These were not the original standards when floppy drives first
came out. The first floppy drives had what is called a SHUGART interface. The ribbon cable and pins are
the same but the pin functions are not. Looking over the schematics for my piano, (Thanks for getting them
for me Bill) I was able to figure out what interface and functions I needed.
Any emulator that supports the Shugart interface should work. I used the Lotharek HXC floppy emulator which
works great. Sells for about $100. I am assuming the Mx100 has the same interface, but I have not looked at
the schematics.
Eric
