RE: [disklavier] Smart key

2016-03-24 by PEOPLES, SAM

I couldn’t honestly tell you Michael I’d wager a fair guess though going on that Serial Number it looks like a late 90s C3. I don’t think the Smartkey function came out until the Mk III in 2000 or whenever it was it could’ve been an exclusive feature of the Disklavier PRO series maybe I dunno somebody please correct me here I haven’t read the series changes in awhile.

I think the solenoids and sensors were upgraded round about the Mk III or IV they made continuous changes to the system and specific control units were developed for each model so I’ve found out when I’ve been looking for upgrade bits and bobs for my 1989 G2B Disklavier wagon. The DKC-850 is kind of an all-in-onw upgrade module and might not be compatible with the solenoids or sensors to let the Smartkey function work on your specific piano but better to get someone like Bill Bradom to pitch in here who’s more knowledgeable than me but I’d say have a read of the manual for the DKC-850 where it talks about the Smartkey function see what they say about compatibility it should tell you.

Hope that helps.

Cheers

Subject: [disklavier] Smart key

Hey group!I have a customer who bought a used DC3A serial number 5878442 with a dkc850 that was not installed by me. He would like to use the smart key function but it doesn't seem to be working. Rather than the key bobbling up and down waiting for the player, the song just begins. Is his piano too early for this function?
Thanks!
Michael
