there is one other program i should have mentioned. later versions of windows do not let you change the default midi output device so if your default midi player is media player (there is some reason for doing this but i forget what it might be, i think it is that VB will not start playing immediately when a file is passed to it as the default player but MP will???) anyway i have a program that allows you to change the registry entry that holds the info for the default midi output device, without having to screw with the registry.
if anyone else wants to try this playing from excel method, i can zip all the programs together and post it to my server as a package instead of having to collect all the parts from my web site.

Really try the link I just sent you. You can buy a MIDI interface and connecter for less than a $100. Send Mark Fontana some money for the PPFDBU software that converts those 750k double density floppies to standard MIDI files that you can store anywhere - preferable iCloud or Dropbox. Get an iOS device - even used. i.e. iPod. Get the free app Piano JukeBox and/or Sweet MIDI player in the app store. Even if you need to purchase an external floppy drive from Yamaha ($150) you have everything you need (except internet radio for Diskavier which you can’t get on that piano anyway).
Eventually you need to do this anyway.
