If you are using MIDI cables, you do not need anything from the To Host port.

As for recording the pedal, I believe you do not need a different channel, but I am not certain.  You could call the Yamaha tech support and ask them.  When I use Logic to edit MIDI files, I also see the pedaling on Channel 1.
I am presently in Germany so I do not have access to my technology cal manuals.  I wish you well on your recording session!

2.  How do I decide whichchannel option to use for transmitting keyboard and continuous pedal data(including half pedaling)-- 1-16 or HP?  I think I've just used Ch 1 for everything--midi & pedal data.  I need to be sure to capture half pedaling, which I use a lot.
