Pro Audio may work
When I tried installing
9.0 on a Windows 10 64 bit system, it refused...I didn't even
try with 6.0
My point is that the legacy Cakewalk programs are uncluttered in display and very easy to use - the only problems are getting the software and having a 32 bit Windows operating system
The other neat thing is
if you can get an unused copy of 6.0, it comes with a printed
owner's manual - like software vendors used to provide in the
old days
With every new generation of Cakewalk, I have found that it became more and more "sophisticated" and in my opinion, overkill for the Disklavier
Just my own opinion

Hi Sheldon and others.

I have found that Cakewalk Pro Audio runs under 64 bit Windows 10. You need to run it as Administrator. I also have Cakewalk Home Studio 2002 which will also run under 64bit Windows 10 (although I have trouble at the moment getting a midi output to play).

I am told that the old Cakewalk v.9 is now available for free from https://www.bandlab.com/products/cakewalk. I have not tried this.

Kind regards

Subject: Re: [disklavier] Midi Editing - CAKEWALK HOME STUIO

Good Evening:
The best real time Windows based midi editing programs for the Disklavier I have found over the 25 plus years I have owned my piano are the legacy programs Cakewalk Home Studio 6.0 and/or 9.0
Personally, I think 6.0 is superior to 9.0 because its "primitive" graphics and simplicity of design make it even more ideal as a real time midi editor for the Disklavier
These programs will install and work on any windows OS - even Windows 10 - as long as the OS is 32 bit (not 64 bit). They probably work best on XP, Vista or 7 (but it has to be a 32 bit OS)
Cakewalk 6.0 on a legacy laptop connected by an "M-Audio" USB interface to the midi input of the DKC-850 visualizes all the channels in real time and allows real time manipulation of channels, tracks and other midi parameters
You can save as type 0 or type 1. You can see pedal data in real time on an event list. You can see musical staff and you can even back-generate sheet music from any midi file. As I said, it is almost as if these programs were custom made for the Disklavier
I wish Yamaha would resurrect these legacy programs and offer them with the pianos - it would make editing so much easier for so many users
It is best to get an old legacy windows laptop (XP or 32 bit 7) and install cakewalk and it becomes a dedicated midi editor for the Disklavier
It is really a shame that there is no current program I have been able to find which has the simplicity and elegance of cakewalk for the Disklavier
These legacy programs occasionally come up on ebay - grab them if you can (they require a serial number for installation) - unfortunately Gibson bought Cakewalk several years ago, ran it into the ground and Cakewalk now no longer exists as a company, so you cannot purchase these programs any longer from the company
I hope this information is helpful to the Disklavier community

the XP format works fine for me in playback on my Mac thru older Standard Midi Editors and players. The extra info seems to be ignored by those Apps but the Pro pianos seem to read the XP content regardless.
I notice that Steinway provides an Editor in an iPad with their recording version of the Spirio.
DOES ANYONE KNOW OF A YAMAHA DESIGNED EDITOR?
Their site offers a lot of obscure technical Apps but not a basic Editor. Yamaha were using Zenphto create the e-Competition files. I have Zenphfor Mac, which I bought in 2002, but all the Zenph files and apps were sold to Steinway and withdrawn from the general market.
So, DOES ANYONE HAVE ZENPH FOR WINDOWS? becauseI have friends with Disklaviers using Windows andit is perfect for optimising files for many different Yamaha Disklaviers and will convert to and from XP, Pro, MkIV, III, II etc..

That's great news Spencer.
Thank you so much.

I understand that the xp format has more information in it, but is it correct that they will work fine on older disklaviers without any difference between the standard files?

i had some time with a fast internet connection so i got all the 2013 to 2018 ecomp files in XP format where available and std MIDI when not available as XP. i will process them adding meta data in a consistent format and will let the group know when i post them to my web server.

if there is a way to bulk download them all after 2011 i can do it myself. i remember that getting the earlier ones required multiple downloads and that i could not figure out how to get a download manager to do it. maybe it is easier now?

also is there any reason to get a different format than the XP files? they work on my LX, do they work for everyone?

i looked at a a sample of the 2013 files and it does look like the meta data should be easy to extract but it also look like the data entry was sloppy with many errors.
