Re: [disklavier] .FIL files to .MID

2019-08-12 by Mark Fontana

Keith, I have never examined the results of converting ESEQ->SMF using
Yamplayer to verify whether it's correct or not, but I have implemented
code for reading ESEQ files. ESEQ files tend to be larger than the
corresponding MIDI files due to a less-efficient scheme of representing
the delta times between events. Something else that can make them
larger is the presence of a "program-dependent" block of data that has
no direct translation to MIDI format and would typically be omitted.
The program-dependent data block hasn't been documented by Yamaha, but
two items I know it contains are the title of the track, as formatted
for the two-line LCD of early Disklaviers, plus the original tempo
setting for the track. The program-dependent data block for Disklavier
ESEQ files is usually 80 bytes in size.

Regarding Pianosoft Plus Audio support, have you tested whether Enspire
can play WAV files ripped from Pianosoft Plus Audio CDs (i.e. WAV files
that have that shrill dialtone-like encoding on one channel and monaural
accompaniment audio on the other)? Yamaha had suggested in the past
that it might be necessary to convert these to Enspire-style "Pianosoft
Audio" file pairs (song.mid+song.mp3) but has not offered a process for
obtaining these conversions.
