RE: [disklavier] HELP! Computer and Disklavier Floppies not compatible.

2002-03-21 by Bryan Baier

Thanks. I tried formatting the disks in the computer, but then the piano didn't recognize them as formatted. I'm using Windows XP, so thanks for the heads up Todd or I would have never figured out why it didn't work. I'll buy some pre-formatted ones somewhere on the net. Any recommendations on preferred vendors?

On the subject of formatting with the PC, hopefully you have at least one PC that is not running Windows XP. For some unknown reason, the great monopolist (MS), in its infinite wisdom, removed formatting support for the 720k format in XP. Im not sure about Win 2000, I never checked. Theyre almost impossible to find at the stores, but on the web you can find pre-formatted 720s at great bulk prices.

Good evening, everyone.

The suggestion that you received to format the disk on the PC first is a good
one. Note, however, that if you format on a Windows computer, you must be
careful to tell the computer that you are formatting a 720K disk as the
computer does not seem to recognize the type of disk by its physical
attributes. A Macintosh will format it correctly if you choose the PC option.
